Budapest || Travel

Budapest 2019
In February 2019, I was lucky to get to spend four amazing days in Budapest, Hungary with two of my closest friends, and it really was a great time. We did a lot in just four days, here are some of my personal highlights:

The Budapest Baths

The Budapest Baths (we went to Szechenyi) were the only thing I think I actually knew about Budapest before I went, thermal baths are something that I've always wanted to go to, especially after going to the Blue Lagoon in Iceland a few years ago, I wanted to see what a man made one was like and if it compared. I left feeling so rejuvenated and overall, it was a really great experience. For £15, you got access to a number of pools, thermal, medicinal, plunge pools, jet pools, lazy rivers, honestly loads of stuff. My personal favourites were the steam saunas, which immediately helped me see a marked improvement on my skin!

In the Baths

Budapest Castle and Fisherman's Bastion

Budapest Castle and the Fisherman's Bastion was also a highlight of this trip as it provided some amazing cityscape views of the Pest side of the river, and the architecture of the buildings were truly amazing. We got a bus up, which was included as part of a three day travel pass we purchased from one of the bus stops for less than £10 and it helped us get across the city cheaply!

Ruin Bars

Something that I found really cool and quirky about Budapest is the presence of ruin bars. Ruin Bars are bars that have been set up in abandoned buildings and are filled with mish-mashs of unmatching furniture, graffiti from visiting patrons, nik-naks and bits and pieces that create a unique dynamic within them. We went to one called Szimpla and it seemed like the type of place you could explore for weeks and never truly see everything that it had to offer.

Food and Drink

Food wise, Budapest is probably one of the best cities I've been too, it's filled with lovely, budget friendly restaurants selling Hungarian classics such as goulash, up to McDonalds. It has something for everyone. My personal favourite was a chain called Hummus Bar, which sells, you guessed it, Hummus. It was delicious! We also stumbled across a basement tea house, that had over 100 selections of teas and it cost less than £3 per tea pot. This place was lovely and I'm so sad that I don't recall the name, if I find it, I'll let you all know, but it was filled with cushions and comfy seats and people sitting and relaxing and talking. I got a chakra tea, and it really was such a lovely environment.

We did so much in Budapest that I could really just talk for days about how lovely the city was, but if you've ever been to Budapest, let me know what you got up, and if you'd go back!

As always, hit me up via my socials!

2017 Blogging Resolutions || Goals

I know I'm late, but happy new year! I also know there has been nothing but radio silence from this blog, but that is coming to an end! The start of 2017 has already been manic and busy, in a good way! I've been working my butt off at my part time blog and I finally started to redecorate my room!

However, this has meant that I haven't done a lot of reading, but I have some amazing reviews in the pipeline and they will be up with a more regular schedule that I'll post next week!

However, again, a new year has started (24 days ago!) and that has meant the beginning of some new years resolutions:

  • Support only cruelty free makeup and beauty brands in 2017; This has been a long time coming and how I'll be doing this is by taking part in #projectpan this year, which is really an instagram movement but I will be doing updates on product empties every so often on my blog!
  • Take better care of myself and my diet; I'm awful at eating right, I tend to eat too much crisps and not drink enough water but this year I will change that, so far, with exam stress, that hasn't been going to well but it won't be an instant result!
  • REDUCE MY TBR!!!!
  • BLOG MORE!!; This is an important one, I feel like I have a good thing going here and I'd hate to ruin it by my own procrastination, so therefore, I'm going to do at least two posts a week, starting next week.
Again, sorry for the radio silence, but QOTD: What are your 2017 resolutions?

New Year, New Me? Probably Not, but also Book Anticipation.

People that know me know that I am not an advocate for change.

I don't like change, but this is going to be the year that I embrace all things new, improved and maybe old too.

This is the post where I talk about 2016;

  • Expect to see me a lot more in 2016, I'm currently organising a timetable and putting posts in schedule, so expect to see me from two to three times a week.
  • I will also be talking about some non bookish related things on this blog e.g. Makeup, Music, stuff like that!
  • I will also be trying to actually review a lot more books this year, so expect more ARCs and other reviews!
I also joined the Oftomes street team, if you don't know what Oftomes is, it is a micro-publishing company set up by youtuber, Benjaminoftomes.

And tomorrow, they're re-releasing Rising by Jennifer Wilson with a new cover!

    Photo cred to @oftomes instagram

The story follows Phoenix, who witnessed her parents murder at a young age. She has spent her life since then obeying her mother's last words -Stay Strong and Survive. But to survive outside of the Sanctuary is close to impossible, a harsh city ruled by the motto, "Join or Die."
Who can she trust?

I am personally very excited for this re-release and I'm pumped to get into this dystopian series!

As always, talk to me below, and let me know your New Year's Resolutions!

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/Happy Friday!

Even if you don't celebrate anything at this time of year, I want to wish you all a happy and joy-filled day, no matter what you're up too.

I'm currently snuggled up in my new minion pjs watching children's films and thinking about books! Below I've included some of my favourite gifts and I thought I'd explain them a little!

  • The Legend Trilogy: The Legend Trilogy is one of my all time favourites, but I only owned a physical copy of the first one and in an unfortunate accident, i.e. me being clumsy, it got ruined by water. My parents bought me the whole trilogy!
  • Nail Polish: I know I know, nail polish is such a common gift you're probably wondering why I included it, but I love make up, it's something I love owning and I love how it feels but I never get the chance to paint my nails because I work in a restaurant. These sparkly ones came with a note saying: "Wear me in uni, no restuarant work there. -Santa" I thought it was just a cute little thing my parents included.
  • Kylo Ren and BB-8: My best friend bought me these and it's because of one simple reason I love star wars. So much.
  • Scratch Map-Travel Edition: A secret Santa bought me this and I just thought it was so thoughtful, as a Geography student, I love maps and I love the planning my next adventure...
  • Perfume: This perfume is heavenly
I also got clothes and little presents, but I just thought I'd share some of my favourites. My family don't tend to buy me books as you can probably see by my previous post, I have far too many!

I'm just feeling so blessed and lucky to be surrounded by love today and I hope you're having a good day, much love!

(Excuse how cheesy I'm feeling today too.)

QOTD: What is your obsessions outside of reading?

Book Shelf Makeover...Sort of...

Okay, I'll admit it. I've been very bad with organising my room lately. Ever since I moved out for University, coming home, I've just been using what I need and leaving it lying wherever I am at that time...

And unfortunately, that included my books as well.

With the new year coming up-I decided that it is time for a change. For a new year, a new me was needed...Well, at least me with a better organised bookshelf.

N.B. Keep in mind that it isn't perfect/finished, but this is just to show my progress so far!

Before:

As I said, I'd gotten into a bad habit of just leaving my books at my backside essentially.

My desk, covered in books.

Boxes filled with books.

Shame in a picture.

Even more shame in a picture.

After:

To start the process, I moved my desk to the other side of my room, and put my two bookshelves in the corner together.

Keep in mind my bookshelves touch the floor, so there are a lot more books than you can see in this photo.

To each set of shelves, I added little personal nik-naks. On this one I have a teddy bear I got the day I was born, a plushie of Nyanko-Sensei from Natsume's Book of Friends, a TARDIS and a Harry Potter Box Set.

This shelf has a Frozen mug I was given for my birthday (and the remains of a Lush Massage Bar,) fairy lights, a panda teddy, a large dalek and my personal favourite, my Jurassic Park boxset.

The side of the shelf is where I decided to stick my pass from the Fault in Our Stars movie screening, concert tickets and an All Time Low poster.

So that's it for this little update!

As it was book related I thought I would share it with you all!

QOTD: How do you organise your  books?

Reading Challenge Goal Setting!

I am a huge believer in Goal setting, I think very methodically and I think writing down my goals and putting them out into the world is a very important way to stick to them!

Every month, I try and take part in a reading challenge in some form, usually on the YA Buddy Reader's Corner group on Goodreads. This month, and next month's, challenge is a series to finish any series you've started to go into the new year with a clean slate!

Below is a list of series that I hope to finish and at the end of November and December, I'll share my progress!

  • House of Night by PC and Kristen Cast
  • The Mediator Series by Meg Cabot
  • A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
  • Fallen by Lauren Kate
  • Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
  • Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
  • The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine
These are the main series that I aim to finish in the next two months, I'm basically half way through all of them so far, so hopefully this is an achievable goal!

QOTD: Do you have many unread series?

Welcome Post!

Hello!

Firstly, welcome! Secondly, what's up? How has your day been?

My name is Connie and I'm an 18 year old book lover and Geography student from the United Kingdom and after posting reviews on Amazon and Goodreads for over two years, I decided to finally make a proper book blog! My favourite genres are Dystopian, Fantasy, Sci-fi and Contemporary, and I tend to mainly stick with Young Adult books. It might take me a while to get to grips with using Blogger as I've only ever really used it to post guest reviews on divergentgryffindor,blogspot.com, check it out! It's a really great blog ran by the lovely Kim @ Divergent Gryffindor.

Anyway, I'm rambling!

I hope you join in with the journey that I hope this blog will take you on. Have a lovely day!
